General Information

What is KXSC Radio?

KXSC (formerly KSCR) is the independent, student run radio station of the University of Southern California. Its members are passionate about providing regular unique, high quality on-air programming as well as other forms of content including music reviews, event coverage, sports broadcasts, and photography.

What do DJs do?

Accredited members of KXSC Radio (otherwise known as DJs) receive a 1-2 hour long timeslot per week where they are free to broadcast their show live on the airwaves. This show can consist of playing music, a talk show, or anything the DJ desires (following FCC guidelines). These broadcasts take place in Studio B of the KXSC Radio Station, located in the basement of TCC, which gives DJs access to equipment like soundboards and turntables.

How do I become a DJ?

To gain DJ certification, new members of KXSC must go through a semester-long training known as the intern process. New members of KXSC are known as interns while they go through the training process. At the end of the semester, interns take an exam on all they have learned, with both a written and technical portion. Passing this exam allows full access to the DJ station and all DJ privileges, including a show slot for the upcoming semester.

How do I become an intern?

An intern application will be sent out a couple weeks into the semester (usually close to the Involvement Fair). This application will ask questions such as musical inspirations, interests in DJing, and many more. After all applications are reviewed by the Intern Coordinator Team, you will be notified through email if you have been accepted as an intern and will begin the DJ training process.

What does the intern process entail?

Aside from passing the DJ test at the end of the semester, interns will need to complete the following requirements in order to become a DJ (as well as adhering to our Codes of Conduct throughout the process):1. Four (4) one-hour shadowing sessions
2. Two (2) one-hour weekend training sessions
3. Four (4) thirty-minute Street Team / station work shifts
3. One (1) thirty-minute On-Air practice session for DJ Test
4. Pass the semester-end DJ test (written and practical)
